Spam Risk or Potential Spam on your Caller ID:
Why is my number being marked as “Spam”?
Your customers and prospects may see your number displayed as “SPAM LIKELY” or “SPAM RISK” or “POTENTIAL SPAM” on their caller ID. Each phone carrier manages their own users and tries to determine calls that could be spam or scam risks. There is no central database or service to manage this.
What is the reason for the SPAM/SCAM flags?
Carriers have responded to the growing number of spam, scam, and robo calls to mobile phones by creating their own tools to identify and sometimes block calls they designate as suspicious. It is becoming more common that businesses are being incorrectly marked by these tools, which presents an obstacle when trying to make legitimate phone calls to customers and potential clients.
Each carrier has their own feature or app, which automatically is enabled on the mobile device. When someone calls that device, the carrier will check its database of reported spam/scam numbers. If the source is a match on their database, the destination will see the call labeled as “Potential Spam” or “Scam Likely”.
Additionally, there are 3rd party apps that some users can download that add an additional level of detection to report and block unwanted calls.
Carriers also are deploying their own intelligent prevention methods. They are utilizing algorithms in their network to detect a large number of phone calls originating from common Caller ID numbers, which can designate these calls as SPAM even if there have been no reported cases against the number yet.
The most common reasons your number has been flagged include:
- High Volume of Outbound Calls Per Day Per Number
- Someone has reported/flagged a call from your number as SPAM
- The end user has enabled a 3rd party SPAM/SCAM blocker on their device
